Tour Overview

Your Morocco journey

Travel from Fes to Marrakech through the Sahara on this private four-day desert journey with extra time in Merzouga.

The route begins in Fes and crosses the Middle Atlas Mountains through Ifrane before continuing toward Midelt and the Ziz Valley. As you travel south, green mountain landscapes gradually give way to dry valleys, palm groves and the scenery of southeastern Morocco.

Arrive in Merzouga beside the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and spend your first night in the desert area. Unlike a shorter route, there is no need to begin the camel trek immediately after the long drive from Fes.

The second day is dedicated to Merzouga and the Sahara. Spend time discovering the desert surroundings before riding a camel across the dunes later in the afternoon. Enjoy the changing colors of Erg Chebbi near sunset and continue to your Sahara camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

After leaving the desert, travel through Rissani toward Todra Gorges. Walk between the high canyon walls before continuing through the landscapes of the Dades Valley, where you spend the third night.

On the final day, continue through southern Morocco toward Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou. Explore the fortified village before crossing the High Atlas Mountains and arriving in Marrakech.

This four-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour is designed for travelers who want more time in the Sahara than a faster three-day itinerary allows. The extra day creates a more relaxed Merzouga experience while still including Todra Gorges, the Dades Valley, Ait Ben Haddou and the High Atlas Mountains.

Continue toward Midelt, where time can be allowed for a break before traveling deeper into southeastern Morocco.

As the road continues, the landscape gradually becomes drier and more open.

Travel through the Ziz Valley and stop to enjoy views across its long palm groves surrounded by rocky scenery.

Continue through the Errachidia and Erfoud regions before reaching Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

After breakfast, spend time discovering the landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi.

Depending on the day's arrangements and your interests, explore different areas around Merzouga and experience more of the environment beyond the main road.

The open landscapes, small desert communities and changing views around the dunes give you a better understanding of this part of southeastern Morocco.

There is also time to relax before beginning the evening desert experience.

Later in the afternoon, prepare for your camel trek across the Sahara.

Ride over the golden Erg Chebbi dunes as the sunlight begins to soften. Depending on weather and timing, stop to enjoy the changing colors near sunset before continuing toward your desert camp.

Take time to explore the village and discover its traditional earthen architecture before continuing toward the High Atlas Mountains.

The road then climbs through mountain landscapes, valleys and traditional villages as you make your way toward Marrakech.

Stops can be made for photos, rest and meals depending on your schedule.
