Kasbahs, gorges, and Berber communities are just a few of the spectacular sights you’ll experience on your Tour from Marrakech to Fes. The journey takes you to Merzouga, where you can view the breathtaking scenery of the High Atlas Mountains and ride camels into the Moroccan desert to experience the gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. The tour finishes with a stroll around Ifrane, its surroundings, and Fes city.
The excursion begins with a pickup from the airport or your Marrakech accommodations in the early morning. Following that, we ride through the beautiful High Atlas highlands and through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass.
Afterwards we proceed to the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a walled village classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has furthermore appeared in a number of movies and television programs, such as Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Following that, we drive to “The Gate of the Desert,” Ouarzazate. You’ll be staying at a hotel for supper and the night.
After a tour of the Atlas film studios and Taourirt Kasbah, we visit Amridil Kasbah in Skoura, which is bordered by palm trees, and then travel to Rose Valley, where the Rose Festival is held yearly in May, and where residents sell rose goods ranging from fragrances and rose water to cosmetics. Next we travel through the Dades valley, stopping to see the breathtaking scenery of the Dades gorges. We continue on to Todra Gorges for lunch.
We arrive at Merzouga in the afternoon, when we swap to camels and travel the sandy desert. On top of a high dune, a halt will be made to watch the spectacular sunset. Next we go to a desert luxury tent where you will listen to Berber drum music, dance around a campfire beneath the great open sky of stars, have dinner, and stay the night.
Waking up early is essential if you want to see the lovely sunrise in the middle of the desert. Following breakfast, you return to Merzouga on camels to meet your driver. We spend the day touring the Merzouga area. There are other wonderful sights in the area, including dunes, natural lakes, mines, fossils, and spectacular oases.
At Merzouga, we begin our tour by driving off-road to an ancient eyeliner mine. Next we go to see the nomads in their handwoven tent. The Khamlia village is our next stop, where you will experience Gnaoua music and dancing performances. Its residents are from Sub-Saharan African nations such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger.
Following lunch, we take a stroll through a palm tree forest before driving to explore Merzouga’s wild lake, also known as Flamingo Lake.
To explore Rissani town, the former seat of Tafilalet government, we depart the desert. Rissani remains a key trade hub in the region, with a bustling souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. We travel to Erfoud after a stroll through the Rissani souk and visit one of the fossilized marble factories.
Following that, we travel down the Ziz River, stopping for a panoramic vista of the Ziz Valley. Following lunch in Midelt, we travel to the cedar forest, which is home to the Barbary Macaques. Afterwards, we go to Ifrane, which is known for its cold weather, snow, and alpine-style residences. Lastly, we will drop you off at the airport or your hotel in Fes.
