Yes, 3 days are enough to go sightseeing in the Moroccan Sahara desert. On this Morocco Desert Tour from Fes, we’ll prove that to you. The southern towns and landscapes as well as camel rides and Berber drums await you on this one!
The journey begins with a pick-up from Fes’s airport or hotel at a convenient time. On our way to Ifrane, we pass through Imouzzer, a town known for its subzero temperatures, snowfall, and mountain-shaped rural homes. The Barbary Macaques dwell in cedar forests, which is where we’ll be heading next. We’ll stop in Midelt for lunch before heading to the Sahara desert through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and the Ziz river.
We reach Merzouga in the afternoon and board camels to explore the desert. Following that, you’ll be taken to a high dune to enjoy the sunset. After that, you will take part in a Berber drum dance in the desert camp beneath the stars. Dinner and an overnight stay are on the agenda at the camp.
Get up early to catch the beautiful sunrise in the middle of the desert. After breakfast, you ride camels back to Merzouga to meet your driver. We spend the day exploring the Merzouga region. The area is rich in natural beauty, with dunes, natural lakes, mines, fossils, and stunning oases.
We start our journey at a historic eyeliner mine in Merzouga by traveling off-road. We then visit the nomads in their handmade tent. Our next trip is the Khamlia village, where you will see Gnaoua music and dance performances. Its inhabitants come from Sub-Saharan African countries.
We take a stroll through a palm tree grove after lunch before traveling to the Flamingo Lake or Lake Dayet Srij, a wild lake near Merzouga, to further our exploration. You will dinner and sleep at a local hotel.
You’ll begin the day by viewing the sunrise and eating breakfast. We leave the desert to explore Rissani town, the former seat of the Tafilalet government. Rissani remains a vital regional trade hub, with a thriving souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. After seeing the Rissani souk, we head to Erfoud to see one of the facilities that produce petrified marble.
Then, we venture down the Ziz River, pausing for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. We proceed to Fes via Azrou and Ifrane after lunch in Midelt. Then, we will leave you off at the airport or your accommodation in Fes, bringing our journey to a close.
