  • Tour the surrounds of Merzouga
  • Ride camels in the desert
  • Sleep under the stars in Merzouga

Certainly, three days are enough time to explore the Moroccan Sahara desert. We’ll show you how on our Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour. This one will take you to southern cities and landscapes, as well as camel rides and Berber drums!

Itinerary of the Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Pickups are made at a suitable time from the airport or hotel in Fes to start the trip. Then, we proceed via the village of Imouzzer our route to Ifrane, which is renowned for its extremely low temperatures, heavy snowfall, and rural dwellings in the form of mountains. Barbary Macaques live in cedar forests, which is where we’ll go next. We’ll have lunch in Midelt before continuing on to the desert over the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass as well as the Ziz river.

We arrive at Merzouga in the afternoon and ride camels into the desert. After that, you’ll be transported to a high dune to watch the sunset. Following that, you will participate in a Berber drum singing and dancing beneath the stars in the desert camp. Indeed, the camp’s itinerary includes dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Merzouga Sahara – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Boumalne Dades

Get up early in the morning to view the sunrise over the parched terrain. Your driver will be waiting for you after breakfast as you ride camels back to Merzouga. Next, we leave the desert to explore Rissani town, the former headquarters of the Tafilalet authority. Rissani is a vital regional commercial center, with a thriving souk on multiple days of the week.

After touring Rissani Souk, we head to Erfoud to visit one of the fossilized marble factories. Following that, we continue via the Touroug and Tinjdad palm orchards to the Todra Gorges. The Todra river’s journey through the mountains has formed a large, red canyon with rock sides. Rock climbers will love these gorges.

After lunch, we go through Boumaine Dades to the Dades valley, stopping along the way at the “monkey fingers” rock formation and a lookout point on a mountain overlooking the valley. A hotel will eventually give meals and overnight rooms.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

We continue our journey to Kalaa Magouna after breakfast to view the Rose Valley. Every year in May, a Rose Festival is held when residents sell rose items ranging from fragrances and rose water to cosmetics. We next travel via Skoura’s palm groves to Ouarzazate, where renowned movies were filmed.

Later on, we go for Ait Benhaddou, a walled hamlet designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This Kasbah has appeared in several films and television shows, including Game of Thrones. We carry on to Marrakech over the Tizi-N-Tichka crossing and the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains. Undoubtedly, lunch and photo stops will be made at fascinating locations. Eventually, we arrive in Marrakech and drop you off at the airport or your hotel.

At Merzouga’s sand dunes, take advantage of this quick break to explore the Moroccan Sahara desert. Please contact us if you require any other information.
